Naming


Australie Close, Gilmore was named after Emily Matilda Manning 1845-1890, a writer and journalist who wrote either anonymously or using the pen name 'Australie'. Emily Matilda Manning wrote for the "Town and Country Journal", the "Sydney Morning Herald" and the"Sydney Mail". She was on staff at "Illustrated News" and in 1887 she published "The Balance of Pain and other Poems".

The theme for street names in the subdivision of Gilmore is Journalists. The suburb itself is named after Mary Gilmore, the writer. Gilmore was gazetted as a division name (suburb) on the 5th August 1975.
